2021- How To Make The New Year Better

2021- How To Make The New Year Better

The end of the year is always a time to look forward to because it signifies the beginning of another year. It is a time of the year particularly known for its unique atmosphere of love, joy, happiness, and a sense of a renewed hope.

Everyone hopes for a better year but is there any work to be done? A lot can happen in a year! Read on to know how you can make your 2021 an awesome year and a better year than 2020.

Let's go!

1. Learn a skill

2020 has shown how terrible it is for you to have a single income stream. A lot of people had their survival threatened when they lost their jobs. This is one of the main reasons why you should learn a skill. Skills can do a lot for you. If you become good enough at it, you could make money from it.

Learning skills is not as difficult as it used to be. In fact, there are many skills you can learn for free or at a very low price from the internet from the comfort of your home. There are tons of videos on YouTube and some free courses on websites like Udemy.

Really, it's more of a question of time rather than money when you want to learn a new skill now. Learning a skill helps you manage your free time well, more desirable and it's a sure way to become a better person.

2. Start something

Many people fail to begin something when they think about how long it's going to take.

If you fail to plant an Orange tree because it would take about five years before you get oranges from it, When you return to that spot after five years, you are not going to find an Orange tree. If you still want it, it's going to take another 5 years. So why not do the work now?

The cowards never started and the weak died along the way. That leaves us, ladies and gentlemen. Us.

Time is going to pass regardless. Years will pass so fast and you could end up regretting that you didn’t start that very thing.

There may never be a better time than now, so start something!

3. Set out your goals

There are things that you want to achieve in the new year. Yes, those are your goals. Why not set them out at the beginning of the year so you know exactly what you are working towards and to stay focused on them.

The clearer your goals are to you, the easier it would be to achieve them.

Write them out in a safe place. Even though it is good to set out realistic goals, it’s okay to be quite ambitious as long as you don’t get too audacious. You may be capable of accomplishing them. The good part of this is that those goals will keep you on toes for as long as possible.

As a man thinketh in his heart, so is he

You know that days will pass, no matter what you do, why not make the best use of them. Also, it’s easier to get out of bed when you have a laid-out goal you’re working on. If you don’t want to be mediocre, set out goals!

If you want to add some spice or flair to your life, get some goals! Else everyday would literally seem the same for you.

One last thing, keep your goals to yourself or at the very least, be careful who you share them with.

Telling a small minded or wrong person your goals is an invitation to disaster. Don’t! Just keep working on your thing and they will get clues about it soon enough.

4. Plan

Good things do not come to those who wait.

Good things come to those who plan.

After setting out your goals and writing them down in a list (in a secure place of course), the next step should be making a conscious plan to achieve them. A written down plan is always better than a mental one. However, a written or mental plan works better than no plan.

Make a plan

Your plan should constantly be subject to change. Do not wait till the next year before you review your plans. Do not be afraid of going back to the drawing board whenever you sense that something may be wrong with your plan.

5. Consistency

Consistency beats intensity.

Consistency is the quality that sets out apart champions and mediocre people. It’s easy to get into a frenzy of “I am going to do this and I want to do that.” But it is quite difficult to sustain that desire and hunger. Consistency is doing something regularly even on the days you don’t feel like it.

Consistency is needed to achieve your goals. Consistency beats intensity. You probably won’t achieve all your goals in just a day. This why consistency is important. Intensity that is not matched with consistency won’t help you in the long run.

6. Evaluate your wins

Sometimes, the line between being grateful or not is as tiny as a spider web. It is easy to be caught up complaining just like every other person.

Write down your wins no matter how small they may seem and if you really took your time to do this, you'd be surprised at the long list you will be holding in your hands.

Take note of the things that were helpful and continue to do them.

Take your time to do this and the results would surprise you. A grateful heart is a happy heart.

7. Reflect on losses

Just like how you should evaluate your wins, reflecting on your losses is also important.

The year may not have gone exactly as you expected but life happens. It didn’t go too well for a lot of people.

Write them down if you want but take your time to reflect over them. You should not dwell on them but only try to learn a thing or two from them.

Take a note of your mistakes, the things you could have done better or avoided. There is no need to get worried about the things you have no control over. The best thing to do with bad situations is to learn something from them.

8. STOP

When a person continues to apply the same methods to situations, he is bound to get almost the same results. Everything that was not beneficial for you in 2020 should be stopped.

Here is a short list of things everyone should stop.

STOP blaming others for things that go wrong with you.

STOP procrastinating

STOP wasting your time

STOP making empty promises

STOP lying

STOP looking down on yourself

STOP trying to please everyone

STOP being sad about things you can’t change by yourself

STOP waiting for your life to change suddenly. Take action!

After evaluating your wins and losses, you should have things, habits or behaivours you need to end, that you need to STOP.

9. Focus

Focus on your goals

That good plan that you’ve made to achieve your goals requires focus from you. Without focus, it’s easy to be swayed around by distractions.

It’s better to focus on one thing at a time. That way, your whole energy goes towards that thing and your chances of success are higher.

If you try your hands on too many things at the same time, you will probably end up just average at them. Focus on less so you can achieve more.

Taking on too many goals at the same time may be overwhelming and chances are  that you will end up burning out yourself.

10. Define your priorities

Take a look at what you held dear the previous year. What do you want to focus on in 2021? This is a perfect time to redefine your priorities.

Our priorities change as we age and gain more experience. You want to ask yourself where God, your family, business, career, hobbies, relationships fall.

Once you’ve got your priorities set, of course, you have to pay more attention to them and treat them like the priorities you say that they are.
