Ants can be a big nuisance even though they are minute creatures. You might want to keep them out of your home. Although they look harmless, a colony can cause a lot of damage. Here are some measures to get rid of ants in your home

1. Clean your kitchen worktop and sweep up the floor


Wipe your worktop and sweep up any crumb on the floor in the kitchen and dining. Ants are always on the search for food. Make sure they find none in your home.

2. Take out your garbage daily


Another place where ants can find food in your home is in the garbage. Taking out your garbage daily or frequently will help keep those hungry ants away.

3. Maintain a clean sink


Your sink is another area ants love to comb. Why? Because they always find food there. Don't leave dirty plates in your kitchen for long or else you'll always attract ants to your home.

4. Keep your food out of their reach


Put your perishable food in the refrigerator. Food and fruits that are sugary will always attract ants, store them properly. Plastic bags and airtight containers can help here. For instance, instead of leaving your chips on the worktop, seal it and put it somewhere safe from ants.

5. Chalk


This is a home remedy that works well. Chalk which contains calcium carbonate helps to keep ants away. Spray some powdered chalk on their entry points or draw a line across the entrance to keep them at bay

This is a very cheap way of getting rid of ants. Dissolve a large amount of salt in hot water and spray around their entry points then watch them disappear.

10. Vinegar


Ants do not like the smell of white vinegar and that's why we'll utilize it in keeping them away. Mix equal amounts of water and white vinegar. Store this mixture in a bottle and sprinkle it everyday at the points where ants enter. Vinegar may not kill them but it will keep them away from your home.

11. Cinnamon


Cinnamon is a good control option and natural repellent for ants as they cannot stand its strong smell. Just sprinkle some powder where they enter and watch them leave your home.

12. Peppermint


Peppermint is an insect repellent which can help you get rid of ants. Aside from keeping ants away, it has a strong fragrant that freshens up your home.
